On April 17 (Vietnam time), the Upper Bracket semifinal match between Top Esports and Royal Never Give Up took place. This is considered the highlight match of the current LPL Spring as both RNG and TES were determined to win. Not only was it a spot in the grand finals at stake, but also a ticket to MSI 2022 and the opportunity to be part of the selection roster for Asiad 2022.

It seemed that TES could breathe easily, even winning the match when they took the lead with a relatively simple game for Knight and his teammates. However, the “champion DNA” of the “Royal Legion” came through just in time. GALA had a perfect day of performance, combined with Ming and Xiaohu, reminding TES who the reigning MSI 2021 champions are. RNG did not completely dominate the later games, but they emerged as the final winners with a score of 3-1, becoming the first team to reach the grand finals of LPL Spring 2022.

According to some sources from LPL, the recent matches, especially the upcoming grand final, will be crucial factors in selecting the roster representing China at the upcoming Asiad 2022. With their performance throughout the period, especially in the semifinal against TES, it has been reported that 4 out of 5 RNG players have been selected, including Bin, Wei, Xiaohu, and GALA.

However, this is certainly not the final roster, whether true or rumored. The smooth play of RNG in the previous Spring season cannot overlook the contribution of Ming – a player whom Keria from T1 has rated as the best Support in the world right now. However, the rumored lineup from LPL media does not include Ming.

Additionally, some LPL fans are worried about whether the Chinese team at Asiad 2022 can defeat Korea. If KeSPA really chooses the entire T1 team, or even just names like Faker, Gumayusi – Keria, and adds Canyon and Zeus/Kiin, it will be extremely strong. Meanwhile, RNG is not without weaknesses, and certainly, just one mistake could cost the Chinese team dearly right on home soil.
