Since the launch of Teamfight Tactics Season 7, compositions revolving around magic damage have mostly focused on Dragon Lords like Aurelion Sol or Ao Shin. However, in the past few days, skilled players have discovered a playstyle based on magic damage that doesn’t rely on expensive units by leveraging Ryze’s ability to “carry the team”. In fact, according to the specialized site Mobalytics.gg, the composition centered around Ryze is currently rated at S tier (extremely strong).

Essentially, the Super Mage Ryze composition operates on the same principle as other 3-gold reroll team comps, stopping at level 7 to upgrade the core unit to 3 stars. Alongside Ryze, Sylas with his ability to create shields and drain opponents’ energy is also a crucial unit, serving as the main tank of this composition.
To effectively build this composition, you should start with the Dragonblood trait, particularly paying attention to purchasing Vladimir. This unit is a strong tank and damage dealer at 2 stars, which will help you maintain a lot of health until you find your core units. With the 3 Dragonblood threshold, you can also quickly upgrade Nami to 2 stars, adding more annoyance for the other players.

Moving into the mid-game, what you should do now is to reach the 5 Mage threshold as soon as possible to enhance your team’s skill damage. More importantly, reaching the 5 Mage threshold will give you additional opportunities to acquire the crucial Mage Recaller core to save gold while rolling for Ryze. Your task at this point is to hold gold, level up to 7 quickly, and start rerolling to get Ryze to 3 stars as soon as possible.

In the late game, players can consider acquiring Zoe (regardless of items) during the shared selection round to add damage and control to the composition. Bard is also a strong option at this stage as he enhances control, allowing Ryze to freely cast spells. If you can’t roll for Bard, you can use a cheaper version of this unit, Lulu, to counter fast-approaching units.

As mentioned above, the Mage Recaller core is the most important core of this composition, so you should grab that upgrade as soon as possible. Additionally, the Elemental Cycle core is also a reasonable choice as it helps Ryze shorten the cooldown between casts. Moreover, cores like Super Technology Implant, New Life, or upgrades that provide items are always good options for a composition revolving around Ryze.
Regarding item choices, the Shojin Spear is the crucial item that players need to acquire first. After that, you can choose Infinity Edge, Gemstone Glove if you want to deal damage quickly or use Hextech Gunblade, Archangel’s Staff if opponents are too tanky. With the current meta favoring Fighter compositions, Hextech Gunblade and Archangel’s Staff should be prioritized.
