If you are a Teamfight Tactics player from season 7, especially from the beta versions, you surely know the Sorcerer playstyle of Aurelion Sol. Simply put, Aurelion Sol becomes incredibly powerful when equipped with the Sorcerer emblem, allowing players to almost win the game immediately. The reason is that the range of influence and damage from the black holes created by Aurelion Sol currently scales with the number of times he casts his spell.
During the testing phase, acquiring the Sorcerer emblem was exceedingly difficult, so this playstyle went unnoticed by Riot. However, when season 7 launched and players gradually found stable ways to obtain Aurelion Sol and the Sorcerer emblem, this playstyle became too powerful, prompting Riot Games to intervene. In fact, according to the latest announcement from the lead balance designer for TFT, Riot Kent, Aurelion Sol will be reworked.

Specifically, Aurelion Sol’s new ability will still create a black hole that explodes, dealing damage to all affected enemy champions. However, this ability will now have a new effect that causes enemies to take an additional 25% damage for 8 seconds. The scaling of the black hole’s influence and damage will now depend on the match duration beyond the 20-second mark, rather than on the number of times Aurelion Sol casts his spell as before.

This means that even when combined with the Sorcerer emblem, the power of the “new” Aurelion Sol will not increase as much as before. Furthermore, with the added damage amplification effect on enemies, the “new” Aurelion Sol can support allies extremely well right from the 1-star level without any items. This will help players no longer be overly dependent on fully equipping this champion with “core items,” allowing them to invest in other key champions.
Additionally, according to Riot Kent’s comments, the aim of this rework is to establish a distinct strength for Aurelion Sol compared to Ao Shin. While Ao Shin focuses on burst damage over a short period, Aurelion Sol will aim for higher versatility with the ability to support allies. Perhaps with these changes, the Dragonmancer composition will have a more solid presence in Teamfight Tactics in the upcoming patch 12.13.
