Introduced as a special mechanic in Teamfight Tactics Season 7, the Dragon God champions have sparked considerable debate regarding their balance. With a hefty cost of 8 and 10 gold, it’s understandable that these Dragon God champions possess overwhelming power. However, their potential to appear too early in a match poses a significant imbalance issue that has left Challenger players extremely disappointed.

Most recently, a top 50 Challenger player from the Western Europe server, Gunmay, posted a lengthy article on Reddit to highlight the inconsistencies of the Dragon God mechanic. This post also referenced a similar issue from the past with 4-cost Chosen champions (Season 4) appearing too early, leading to severe game imbalance. After being published, it received a lot of support from other Challenger players.

Essentially, Gunmay pointed out that, similar to the Chosen mechanic, Dragon God champions significantly influence players’ building strategies. With powerful champions like Shi Oh Yu, SyFen, or Daeja, it often happens that players abandon their entire team composition built from the start to play around these champions.

Another issue faced by Dragon God champions is that the 8-cost characters can appear too early, making the match extremely unbalanced. This is due to the fact that these 8-cost Dragon God champions share the same tier as regular 4-cost champions. Consequently, by level 5 or 6, players have a complete opportunity to acquire them, significantly easing the team-building process as the most crucial carry has already been found.
Therefore, to restore balance, players believe that Riot Games should find a way to lock the appearance rate of Dragon God champions after level 7. This could make it necessary to reconsider abandoning a team composition to build around a Dragon God rather than making a decision as easily as it is currently. Additionally, it would prevent situations where, at level 6, round 3, players already own 2-star Shi Oh Yu or SyFen.

Hopefully, Riot Games will listen to player feedback and implement the most reasonable adjustments in upcoming patches. Overall, Season 7 is operating quite well, with just a slight imbalance from the Dragon God mechanic.
