While other League of Legends (LoL) tournaments around the world have been running for about 3 to 4 weeks, Vietnamese fans have been eagerly waiting for the VCS Summer 2022 to officially kick off. Recently, on July 7th, the highest-level LoL tournament in Vietnam was held. The highlight match of the opening day was the showdown between SBTC Esports (SE) and GAM Esports (GAM).
And true to the meaning of a highlight match, the result of the clash between SE and GAM truly shocked the Vietnamese LoL community. The reason is that right on the opening day of VCS Summer 2022, which is also the first match for both teams in this tournament, SE achieved a convincing victory over GAM. In fact, in the two games that SE won, they completely dominated the champions of VCS Spring 2022.
Witnessing SE’s victory over GAM in the opening match of VCS Summer 2022, the Vietnamese LoL community erupted with mixed emotions. Fans of SE were overjoyed and excited. This is the first time since its establishment that SE has been able to defeat GAM in a match within the VCS tournament. Some even started dreaming about a spot in the World Championship 2022 in San Francisco (USA) coming up.

– “Every player in all 3 games performed well, SE has potential this season.”
– “Dia1 took a year off but returned still on top.”
– “Let’s get the visa to go to the US now.”
As for GAM fans, disappointment was clearly evident. No one understood why players like Kiaya, Kati… who just won gold medals at SEA Games 31 could perform so poorly. Additionally, the ineffective picks of Sejuani in Game 1 and repeating it in Game 3 also frustrated GAM fans.
– “I don’t understand why GAM’s coaching staff chose Sejuani for Kiaya. Game 1 showed that Kiaya is not comfortable with this champion, yet in Game 3, they continued to use Sejuani.”
– “Let’s get back to training hard, there were too many issues in this match.”
– “Two losses where the picks of Sejuani did not prove effective. Hope the team stabilizes their performance soon.”
But after all, this was just the first match for both teams in this VCS Summer. The journey for both is still long ahead. Both SE and GAM need to put in more effort if they truly want to compete for the title and become one of the representatives from VCS at the upcoming World Championship.
