As we know, yesterday – July 8th, the “classic” match in the LCK took place featuring T1 and Gen.G. Before this match, even experts in Korea believed that T1 would fail as Gen.G had been in exceptional form. However, Faker and his teammates performed incredibly well and defeated Gen.G in a breathtaking fashion with a final score of 2-1.

The highlight of this match was undoubtedly in the Mid Lane as it featured the clash between the two biggest stars of each team – Faker and Chovy. However, Chovy disappointed in this match as he farmed well but made poor decisions on when to engage in fights. Meanwhile, Faker had some excellent initiation plays with Lissandra, contributing significantly to T1’s victory. Nevertheless, in the post-match interview, Faker still claimed that he hasn’t reached his peak performance.

Question: Did you prepare any plans for facing Chovy?
T1 Faker: Actually, I was quite worried before the match because my laning ability isn’t very strong right now. Therefore, I focused on coordinating with my teammates to improve this. In fact, during the match, my laning improved a lot so we were able to win.
Question: Are you sad that you weren’t voted as the best player?
T1 Faker: A little, but I realize that I haven’t reached my peak performance yet. I need to practice much more because there’s still a long way for me to achieve that. My teammate being voted as the best player will help them gain a lot more confidence. It’s beneficial for the whole team.

Indeed, looking back at T1’s recent matches, it’s clear that the best-performing players have been Zeus and Oner. As a result, these players are frequently voted as the best players of the match whenever T1 wins. Meanwhile, Faker is playing with a focus on initiating fights and supporting teammates more. Therefore, the “Demon King” finds it hard to shine and become the center of each match.
However, this is a wise move by Faker in particular and T1 in general as recent patches have favored this approach. We can clearly see that champions like Gangplank, Viego, and Wukong are becoming too strong, placing the burden of “carrying the team” on the shoulders of the Top Lane and Jungle players. Therefore, Mid Lane players must adapt to the role of engaging in fights to win, just like what Faker is doing.
