After the release of patch 12.15, Teamfight Tactics has seen a more balanced gameplay with many strong team compositions. However, there are still a few champions with overwhelming power or versatility that are fiercely contested, despite Riot’s adjustments. So, who are these champions? Let’s find out.
Lulu
Kicking off this list is a versatile champion that provides numerous beneficial effects for the team, named Lulu. Just having the Mystic trait and granting the entire team additional magic resist has made Lulu a highly sought-after champion. The reason is that even though her power has been reduced, magic damage carries (Daeja, Aurelion Sol, Ryze…) are still extremely popular, making magic resist from Lulu and the Mystic trait essential for securing victories.

Not stopping there, with the significant buffs to the Dragon from the Dragon Trainer trait in patch 12.15, Lulu’s importance has increased even more. In addition to speeding up the upgrade of the dragon, Lulu’s skill also boosts the attack speed of this unit, allowing it to cast spells continuously. Even if not used in a Dragon Trainer composition, the attack speed boost is still beneficial for most strong carries, making Lulu very favored at the moment.
Bard
Similar to Lulu, having Bard in the current meta is extremely important as the Mystic trait is a highly necessary effect. Additionally, Bard helps your entire team cast spells significantly earlier due to the energy regeneration effect he provides. Remember that the Sorcerer trait only grants energy regeneration for itself, while Bard enables all champions in the team to do so.

Even in compositions that don’t require much energy, Bard remains an incredibly strong piece due to his skill. Simply put, Bard’s skill provides a stunning effect as well as damage enhancement for teammates attacking those targets. Therefore, not only does he provide effects, but Bard also contributes a lot of damage to the team, making him a top choice in the late game regardless of the team composition.
Sylas
If you remember, in the previous season, there was an extremely powerful Mage champion known for creating shields and tanking, named Vex. This character made players realize that creating a tank for the Mage trait was not a good idea as this unit almost carried the entire trait last season. However, Riot still hasn’t learned from this experience and has created an even more powerful and annoying version than Vex in season 7, which is Sylas.

In addition to his excellent shielding and tanking abilities, Sylas also possesses the Brawler trait with a significant amount of bonus health. Not to mention, his skill also increases the energy usage of opponents. As a result, Sylas can be incredibly resilient at the front line while also helping the backline take less damage when the opponent casts their skills extremely slowly. Coupled with the resurgence of Mages, it’s easy to understand why Sylas has an extraordinarily high pick rate.
