As of now, three groups in the World Championship (WCS) 2022 have concluded with many surprising results. For instance, Fnatic, once a favorite to advance, faced a bitter elimination. Similarly, another European representative, G2 Esports, had to go “home early” after losing all three return matches in Group B. Additionally, LCS (North America) representatives managed to secure some wins before exiting the tournament held in their own backyard.

However, right after the first day of the second round of the Group Stage of WCS 2022 concluded, the community identified a list of players with the highest number of deaths in the history of the World Championships. Notably, despite being heavyweights with experience and superior skills, top names like Faker and Perkz also appear on this list.

5. sOAZ (69 matches – 183 deaths)

The name sOAZ may seem a bit unfamiliar to those who have recently discovered League of Legends. However, in reality, sOAZ is one of the renowned players in the Western League of Legends scene and is one of the few who has competed in both LCS and LEC. He was the first runner-up in the World Championship when his team, Against All Authority, lost to FNC.

Having participated in a total of 6 World Championship tournaments throughout his career, and in a position that is very prone to attacks, it is no surprise that sOAZ is among the players with the highest number of deaths in this tournament’s history. Notably, sOAZ reached 183 deaths in just 69 matches, averaging about 2.65 deaths per match.

4. Wunder (70 matches – 193 deaths)

The Top Lane is considered one of the most challenging positions in MOBA games in general and League of Legends in particular. This is because the Top Lane is a solo lane that does not receive much support but is often exploited, especially in the early game. Therefore, alongside sOAZ, another Top Laner on this list is Wunder – the former star of G2 Esports and the current Top Laner of FNC – sOAZ’s former team.

Wunder has 10 more deaths than his predecessor sOAZ (193 compared to 183), but the total number of matches the former G2 star needed to reach this number is only 70 matches (one more than sOAZ). Wunder’s aggressive playstyle, ready to engage the enemy whenever the opportunity arises, explains his relatively high number of deaths. Nevertheless, Wunder remains one of the top Top Laners that League of Legends has ever produced.

3. Hylissang (50 matches – 203 deaths)

After FNC concluded their journey in WCS 2022, Hylissang became the player with the most deaths, specifically in World Championship history, when considering the average number of matches played. Notably, “Sang the Diver” reached 203 deaths in just 50 matches. For those who may not know, this 50-match figure is only half of the number of matches Faker has played in the World Championships (100 matches).

As a Support, it is understandable that Hylissang must take damage on behalf of his carries. However, there have been many instances where this player has made “going into the ground” plays literally. A prime example is in the match against T1 and EDward Gaming in the recent Group Stage return match. Furthermore, his performance has not always been at its peak, and he is often cited as one of the reasons for FNC’s failures.

2. Faker (100 matches – 204 deaths)

Competing in double the number of matches as Hylissang, but Faker is only one death more than this Support, which is enough to showcase the caliber of T1’s Mid Laner. Notably, the champions Faker uses are not exactly those that are protected by teammates. In fact, there was a period when Faker consistently used champions like Azir and Galio to initiate fights for the entire team.

Currently, Faker’s skills and reflexes may not be as sharp as before, but with his experience, he remains one of the best-positioned players at T1. Throughout the WCS period up to the third day of the Group Stage, Faker had the second lowest number of deaths among players who played 6 or more matches, while using Assassins or champions that tend to dive into the enemy formation like Sylas, Akali, and Lissandra.

1. Perkz (86 matches – 214 deaths)

The final name, also another player from the Western region, is Perkz. Currently positioned and according to the statistics, Perkz is ranked as a Mid Laner, but everyone knows he can also play as a Marksman. In just 86 matches, Perkz has been killed 214 times, making him the most killed player.

Although he is one of the talented Mid Laners, Perkz did not succeed in bringing Team Vitality to WCS 2022. According to many community opinions, if he had participated in this tournament, Perkz could have potentially increased his “kill count” even further.
