In recent days, the Vietnamese League of Legends (LoL) community is still buzzing from GAM Esports’ GAM Esports (GAM) victory at the World Championship (Worlds) 2022. Although this was the first and also the last victory for the VCS representative in this tournament, it will certainly be a historic win. Not only because GAM faced off against Top Esports (TES) – the LPL Summer 2022 runners-up, but also because the Vietnamese players secured the win by a narrow margin.

However, on the evening of October 16 (Vietnam time), Vandiril – a well-known figure in the global LoL community, posted about a bug occurring during the match between GAM and TES. According to Vandiril, when Levi’s Karthus used his ultimate R, it seemed that Lucian’s Malmortius Spike item in JackeyLove’s hands did not activate. This caused Lucian to take more damage, and when Kati’s Sett appeared with burst skills, Lucian was taken down. Vandiril claimed that this factor led to TES’s defeat against GAM.

Vandiril’s discovery has drawn significant attention from the global LoL community, especially from the VCS and LPL regions. Some opinions suggest that this bug clearly affected the match’s outcome. At that time, GAM’s Nexus was left with very low health. If Lucian could attack, GAM might have faced defeat against TES.

However, many also argue that Vandiril’s check for the bug did not consider certain cases, such as the passive from the item Rimefire Glove or items upgraded by Ornn (in this case, Sett’s Iceborn Gauntlet and Karthus’s Liandry’s Anguish). Furthermore, even if Lucian was not taken down immediately, losing both Flash and E ability would make it very difficult for Lucian to activate his passive or move to attack GAM’s Nexus. Especially in this case, some GAM players had already been resurrected.

In a new development, after information about the bug spread within the LoL community, some fans in the LPL have demanded Riot to address the incident. Some of these viewers even declared that the LPL would not participate in any future Worlds if Riot did not take action.

However, at this time, both Riot and TES have remained silent on the matter. In another development, teams like GAM, TES, etc. have prepared to return home, and the Quarterfinals have been drawn. Therefore, it is almost certain that Riot will not allow a rematch, even if the bug is verified to exist.
