After a tense period of the World Championship (Worlds), the League of Legends (LoL) community is focused on the Final – the most important match of the season for both teams. The names competing in this final are T1 and DRX. This match not only determines the new champion of the LoL scene but also a series of long-standing records waiting to be broken by both teams.
First, there is the record for the oldest player to win a Worlds title. As of now, this record is held by Ambition (25 years and 8 days old) – the former legend of Samsung Galaxy, who won the title when representing LCK at Worlds 2017. Both Faker and Deft are already 26 years old, so whether T1 or DRX wins, Ambition’s record will be broken.
Another milestone related to age is that Faker (17 years and 151 days old) first won the Worlds in 2013, making him the second youngest player to win at this tournament (after Cyanide from Fnatic). However, Cyanide’s case is not applicable now as regulations no longer allow players under 17 to compete professionally. Therefore, if T1 wins the Worlds 2022, Faker will be the youngest and oldest player ever to win a Worlds title.
Additionally, if DRX wins, the team and its players will also set several new milestones. First, DRX would be the first team to win a Worlds title after coming from the Play-In Stage. This is an impressive achievement as teams from the Play-In Stage are often not highly regarded and seldom achieve good results in previous World Championships.
If Deft and BeryL win at Worlds 2022, they will become the oldest bot lane duo to win a Worlds title. Both Deft and BeryL will also become the oldest players in their respective positions (AD Carry, Support) to win Worlds.
