At the end of the 2022 season, alongside the intense matches of the 2022 World Championship, the Vietnamese community of League of Legends (LoL) was also concerned about another issue. That is the information surrounding Riot Games officially taking over the publishing of LoL and Teamfight Tactics (TFT) in Vietnam specifically and Southeast Asia in general.
Recently, Riot Games made an official announcement regarding this. Specifically, starting from January 2023, Riot will take over the publishing of LoL and TFT for the Southeast Asia region, and VNGGames will be responsible for publishing these two titles in Vietnam.

In the process of transitioning publishers, Riot Games will launch new LoL and TFT servers, meaning that Garena’s servers will cease operations in January 2023. To ensure that players can transition and maintain their existing data in their accounts in a timely manner, Riot Games will work closely with Garena during the account linking phases starting from November 18, 2022.
Right after starting the account linking process in November, players can continue to play LoL through Garena’s client until the end of December 31, 2022. However, by January, Riot’s servers will go live, and all players will access LoL on Riot Games’ multi-game client. As soon as players log in for the first time through Riot Games’ multi-game client in January, their game history will be completely transferred. The official relaunch date will be announced later.

Riot Games encourages players to transfer their accounts as soon as possible to minimize interruptions while experiencing the games from Riot Games. Additionally, players who transfer their account data early will receive exciting welcome rewards in the game. However, personal data provided to Garena will not be transferred.
Thus, starting from the 2023 season, Riot Games will officially take over LoL and TFT in Southeast Asia, and VNGGames will be the publisher of these two titles in Vietnam. This will be a significant transition, marking a new chapter for the Vietnamese Esports scene in general and LoL as well as TFT specifically. The community is certainly looking forward to Riot Games helping the development of Vietnamese Esports and LoL further in the future.
