In a League of Legends roster, every position is important. Among them, the Support position often sparks controversy. The reasons for the debate vary, but it generally relates to the influence of this role in the game.

Recently, former LCS professional player IWDominate made some strong statements regarding the Support role. Specifically, on his personal Twitter account, the former player stated: “I believe the best players are never Supports. If I could choose anyone in the world, I would pick Viper. Playing Support is extremely easy compared to ADC or Mid Lane at a professional level. A skilled ADC/Mid Laner can become a good Support, but I haven’t seen the opposite happen.”

IWDominate’s opinion instantly sparked controversy. According to many voices, the Support role has become very important at this time. Notably, Keria and players like Meiko, Ming play crucial roles in their teams’ strategies. Especially, T1’s creative and diverse gameplay owes much to Keria’s vast champion pool.

However, there are also some agreeing with IWDominate. The reason is that throughout League of Legends history, the most famous players have typically been in Top Lane or Mid Lane positions, such as Faker, Uzi… Meanwhile, players like MadLife, Mata, or Wolf have not enjoyed the same level of fame.
Moreover, in League of Legends gameplay, as the game progresses towards the end, the importance of the Support diminishes. Late-game results often depend on the players who deal damage. And Supports generally cannot provide those stats. For teams, most prioritize the image and media presence of key players who “carry the team.” Even within teams like Royal Never Give Up, players like Mlxg or Letme could not outshine Uzi.

Of course, in every lineup, every position is very important. And players in the Support role not only contribute greatly but are also deserving of more recognition for their efforts, even when the acknowledgment from the audience sometimes does not reflect that.
