Remember, at the end of 2021, Riot released Arcane – the first animated film based on the storyline of champions from League of Legends. Season 1 of the Arcane series focuses on the relationship between Vi – Jinx – Caitlyn and Jayce, set in Zaun and Piltover. The overwhelming success of Arcane afterwards proved Riot right for investing in this series.

With countless awards earned, along with the open ending of the last episode of season 1, many viewers were eagerly anticipating Arcane season 2 to be released soon. Of course, this still depends on Riot. Fundamentally, the company is still just a game publisher and the execution of their cinematic projects requires thorough preparation. Moreover, Riot certainly does not want to disappoint the audience after season 1 achieved so many accomplishments.

However, throughout 2022, there was no new Arcane season released. And as of now (almost mid-2023), Riot still has not made any moves regarding this series. Recently, after many days of waiting, a representative from Riot has spoken out to explain the delay in announcing season 2 compared to audience expectations.

Specifically, Riot stated: “We have made season 2, but it definitely will not be ready this year. But I have seen episodes 2 and 3 already. We did not think that season 1 would be so successful, so we started working on season 3 quite late.” With this confirmation from Riot, the fan community of the series seems to have to wait until 2024 to see the new installment of this series.

This is a completely understandable move. The Arcane project is Riot’s first cinematic work, and they certainly cannot anticipate all the risks. Furthermore, Riot has implicitly confirmed that there will be a season 2, so making the audience wait for a perfect work is an acceptable situation.
