Star Guardian
Although Riot Games intended to reduce the power of the 5 Star Guardian trait, they inadvertently made this Teamfight Tactics composition stronger in the current 13.9 patch. Specifically, Riot has increased both damage amplification and durability of the Star Guardian at the 3 champion threshold. This allows the Star Guardian composition to be much more robust in the early game with ample health and economy to prepare for a Gnar carry.
The increased damage mentioned above interacts very well with Gnar. As a result, Gnar can deal effective damage early on instead of relying entirely on reaching level 3 stars. Of course, Gnar’s power in the late game will be slightly reduced, but the snowballing speed that this Teamfight Tactics composition possesses is significantly better.
Duelist
Similar to the Star Guardian composition, Duelist has also received a slight power boost in the early game. Specifically, the 2 champions priced at 1 gold, Kayle and Gangplank, will have their skill damage and attack speed increased. Even such a small change is enough to help Duelist rise strongly in Teamfight Tactics.
In fact, Duelist has been a strong composition since the previous patch with many quality carries. In patch 13.9, the early game strength of this composition has improved, and its ability to sustain health has become better. This is a fantastic condition for Teamfight Tactics players to aim for Vayne or Twisted Fate with ample items in the late game.
Cavalry – Twisted Fate
With the Guardian trait being significantly nerfed in patch 13.9, Teamfight Tactics players are forced to look for other options in the frontline. Cavalry has emerged as a strong choice with its shield creation capability. This creates favorable conditions for carries like Twisted Fate or Neeko to deal damage.
The biggest weakness of this composition is the lack of healing reduction since Annie is not the best champion to carry the Morello’s Flame. Teamfight Tactics players should address this issue by crafting a Morello’s Tome for Neeko to reduce healing on a wide scale.
