Here are 4 ‘ignored’ champions in the history of the World Championship

Since League of Legends launched, there have been a total of 15 World Championships, and in less than 48 hours, the final match of the 2025 World Championship will officially take place. Along with that, many champions, both new and old, have appeared. Some champions have been used many times due to being meta, while some ‘odd’ names like Teemo have surfaced. However, there are still 4 names that have never appeared in the history of League of Legends, despite being around for many years, including Master Yi, Akshan, Illaoi, and Briar.

These 4 champions have never appeared in the history of the World Championship.

A common reason for all 4 of these champions is that they simply do not fit the meta. Among them, Master Yi is the ‘oldest’ name, and one of the first champions to appear in League of Legends. However, while Master Yi’s ‘contemporaries’ have all made their appearances, the Wuju Bladesman has never been chosen. The reason is that Master Yi is only strong late game, has little impact early game, and is very easy to burst down or get caught in crowd control.

Master Yi has many skins but does not fit any meta.

Meanwhile, similar to Master Yi, Illaoi and Akshan, as well as Briar, are even easier to counter. Akshan has appeared in the LCK and some other tournaments but has not shown effectiveness. As for Briar’s skill set, champions like Naafiri or even Vex are performing much better.

The skill sets of these champions need a rework if Riot wants them to appear in the future.

And in the future, the likelihood of these champions continuing to be absent from the World Championship and the professional scene in general remains high.

Not only at the World Championship but in major and minor professional tournaments, the appearance rate of these champions is almost 0%. No team wants to take the risk of experimenting only to receive undesirable results. Therefore, in the future, the 4 names mentioned above may continue to be ‘unlucky’ in professional League of Legends, unless Riot makes significant adjustments as they did with Naafiri in the past.
