In their first reunion since the LCK Spring Finals 2023, T1 and Gen.G delivered one of the most thrilling matches of MSI 2023 and the history of League of Legends overall. The two teams battled through to Game 5, showcasing a match filled with skill, experience, mistakes, and some “magical” plays.

One of the standout players for Gen.G was Mid Laner Chovy. Throughout all 5 games, even when he appeared to be at a disadvantage against Faker, he always found a way to maximize his impact in team fights. It can be said that Chovy’s influence helped Gen.G maintain a competitive edge, even in the games they lost. Alongside Peyz, Chovy was rated the highest among Gen.G players by HUPU readers (5.4 points).

Notably, in the third game, Chovy executed a “godly” play within just a few seconds. Specifically, while being chased by Sion and Kha’Zix from Zeus and Oner, Chovy managed to buy a Zhonya’s Hourglass right under the turret and completely outplayed the duo from T1. Oner was taken down by the turret while Zeus fell as Chovy counterattacked. This moment notably disrupted T1’s momentum and created an opportunity for Gen.G to turn the tide in Game 3.

The T1 players were a bit hasty, but it’s undeniable that Chovy remained incredibly calm in handling such a situation. Everything transpired in a matter of seconds as Chovy had to move back to the Nexus turret, open the shop, and purchase the Hourglass. Had Chovy been taken down in that moment, Zeus’s Sion could have easily pushed down the last defensive turret and attacked Gen.G’s Nexus to finish the game.

Despite being defeated by T1 in the winners’ bracket, Chovy and his teammates are not entirely out of hope. They will continue their journey in the losers’ bracket, and if they face T1 again in the grand finals, Chovy will undoubtedly be one of the key players that T1 must watch out for if they want to claim the championship.
