A few days ago, Riot Games published a lengthy article about their plans to revise the ranking system of League of Legends (LoL). Notable changes that Riot will implement include adding the “Wood Tier” ranking between Platinum and Diamond. Additionally, the number of placement matches will be reduced from 10 to 5, and the promotion series will be eliminated in the future.

According to Riot Games, the aforementioned changes aim to increase player satisfaction when participating in ranked mode. The addition of a new rank will help players find better teammates than before. This will allow players to enjoy LoL in a better environment instead of falling into the toxic situations of the past.

After this article was shared, it became a hot topic of discussion. In fact, some players even joked that it wouldn’t be long before Riot added the “Wood Tier” to LoL. What seemed to be just a joke, however, took a turn when Riot Games’ Vice President – Riot Meddler revealed that they are indeed planning to implement the “Wood Tier” in LoL but in a new game mode.
“I’m not promising anything here. Essentially, the development team for the new 2v2v2v2 mode is considering calling the lowest rank ‘Wood Tier'” – Riot Meddler disclosed to LoL players on social media.

With the above disclosure from Riot, players can understand that the new mode will have its own ranking system. It is likely that Riot wants to develop this game mode long-term, similar to what they did with Teamfight Tactics. Hopefully, Riot Games will launch this 2v2v2v2 mode as soon as possible.
