GAM Sets a “Sad Record” in MSI History After Their Debut

This "record" by GAM is likely to be hard for any team to replicate, especially at MSI.

GAM Sets a “Sad Record” in Their MSI 2025 Debut

On the morning of June 28 (Vietnam time), GAM faced off against Bilibili Gaming – the LPL representative and the reigning runner-up of the tournament – in their MSI 2025 debut. Naturally, with such a mismatched match-up, even the VCS audience did not have high hopes for GAM to pull off an upset. In fact, if they could secure even one game win against the Chinese representative, it would be considered a success. However, everything ended quickly after just 3 swift games, and GAM even set a “sad record”: They lost a total of 13 Dragon buffs across the 3 games.

GAM not only completely failed against BLG.
GAM not only completely failed against BLG.

In all 3 games, even when GAM had a slight advantage over their opponents, they still allowed BLG to control all 12 Elemental Dragon buffs. Additionally, in game 2, BLG also secured 1 Elder Dragon buff.

This is also a record for the MSI tournament, as since 2015 (when MSI was first held), no team, regardless of how weak, has lost 12 consecutive Elemental Dragon buffs in a single BO5. Furthermore, in a broader sense, even BO3 matches have never witnessed such complete control. GAM’s jungler Levi has had highlight moments stealing Dragons from opponents in the past.

The Loss Could Leave GAM Shattered at MSI 2025

Levi, Kiaya, Emo, Artemis, and Elio have all experienced international matches. However, the whitewash against BLG is a different story as GAM clearly displayed total helplessness. Therefore, the VCS audience’s fear that GAM could be shattered after this loss is justified. If FUR plays like they did in their recent match against G2, GAM will face significant challenges.

No one knows if this loss will leave the GAM players psychologically 'shattered'.

Nevertheless, GAM is strongest when they are in a “do or die” situation. The VCS representative has no way back, and only victory can keep GAM in Vancouver for MSI instead of returning early to prepare for EWC 2025 right after.
