Just a few hours ago, the organizers of VCS officially announced the long-awaited verdict regarding SBTC Esports. As is known, the negativity surrounding SE has been brewing since the early days of VCS Twilight 2023. However, it wasn’t until now, after the group stage concluded, that the VCS organizers made an official decision. This incident has drawn significant attention from the VCS community due to its serious nature and its impact on the Vietnamese League of Legends scene.
Accordingly, the VCS organizers officially announced the dissolution of the SBTC Esports roster from the VCS tournament system. Simultaneously, the five players: Nper, DNK, Dia1, Penguin, and Vinboiz have been banned from participating in any activities within Riot’s tournament system for three years, starting after VCS Twilight 2023. As for the owner of SE, they have been permanently banned from all Riot activities. The sanctions imposed have immediately sparked a wave of debate within the VCS community.
First, many opinions suggest that while the punishment is severe, it is deserved due to the negative behaviors exhibited. Some even argue that the penalties for Penguin and Vinboiz indicate that the negativity has been ongoing for a long time, as Penguin has only just returned to SE and has not yet played a match in this VCS Twilight 2023 (the same situation applies to Vinboiz). Although a major Esports brand in the Vietnamese LoL scene has effectively been erased, it should serve as a deterrent for similar cases in the future.
On the other hand, there are quite a few opinions stating that the VCS organizers have taken too long to address SE’s case. Although this recent incident was deemed unprecedented in VCS history by coach Tinikun, the VCS organizers have indeed made the community wait far too long. However, some opinions suggest that Riot has only recently taken direct control of the tournament and has encountered a serious issue that affects many parties. Therefore, the time taken to address it is necessary.
