Recently, Riot officially released the GODS MV – the official theme song for the World Championship (Worlds) 2023. This is the first time in the history of the Worlds that a girl group truly from South Korea has the opportunity to perform the theme song for the most prestigious international League of Legends tournament. Even in previous Worlds held in Korea (2014 and 2018), this precedent has never occurred.

Not to mention the performance of the members of NewJeans, the League of Legends community has immediately flocked to enjoy the new MV and share their thoughts on the song Worlds 2023 and Riot’s storytelling approach. For those who might not know, since beginning to invest in League of Legends storylines for the Worlds MVs, not only have the lyrics and performing artists been well received, but the narratives constructed into the MV have also garnered significant interest from the League of Legends community.

In this year’s GODS MV, the main character is Deft and his former teammates at DRX. The MV recounts Deft’s career from being a high school student alongside Deft to reaching the zenith of the global League of Legends scene.

However, there have been many explosive opinions surrounding the official MV of Worlds 2023 that Riot has brought to fans. Firstly, many opinions suggest that this year’s MV has clearer lyrics and aligns better with the spirit of Worlds compared to last year, but lacks the necessary climax that made previous hits like Warriors famous, and it even struggles to compare to STAR WALKIN’. Yet, some comments argue that the group with their beautiful voices performed the song very well. Therefore, it still remains a song worth listening to and has a certain appeal.

Additionally, most opinions share a common observation: Riot has built an excellent narrative for this MV. The entire MV, depicting Deft’s journey to glory, allows viewers to reminisce about the thrilling moments from past League of Legends tournaments. Meanwhile, the players featured in the MV alongside Deft are showcased at their peak or during the ups and downs they experienced with the Marksman of DK.

Overall, the GODS MV certainly has its flaws and is unlikely to please 100% of the audience. However, it could also be a MV with great content, fitting the unyielding spirit of striving for success in Esports in general and League of Legends in particular, while receiving significant acceptance from fans.
