On October 13, GAM Esports (GAM) achieved a crucial victory against Movistar R7 (R7) in the Play-In Stage of the 2023 World Championship. Besides advancing further into the tournament, this victory allowed the VCS representative to successfully “settle the score” against R7, who had previously eliminated Levi and his teammates from the MSI 2023 tournament.

This victory from GAM shows that the VCS representative has regained some confidence and improved their team composition choices. However, this win cannot overshadow certain weaknesses the VCS representative is facing. Even the captain Levi of the “black and gold team” had to admit this after the match concluded.
“Under normal conditions with high performance, the coordination between Kiaya, Kati, and me is very good since we have played together for quite a while. However, in a low-performance situation, I encounter difficulties coordinating with the Top Lane and Mid Lane of the team,” Levi shared after successfully overcoming R7.

For those closely following the match between the VCS representative and R7, viewers could see the occasional lack of coordination that Levi mentioned. Right in game 1, Levi intended to pull the bird camp deeper into his team’s territory to avoid an attack from Jarvan IV. However, this information was not communicated to Kati, which partially led to his demise.

Of course, these handling errors are just a few “blemishes” in the significant victory of the VCS representative against R7. Levi and his teammates have improved significantly in their laning phase as well as their teamfight coordination. Additionally, this victory also boosts Levi and his team’s morale before facing LOUD again.

Hopefully, the VCS representative will maintain this winning momentum and address their weaknesses for the journey in the 2023 World Championship. Because if they overcome LLL, GAM will ensure that the VCS has a guaranteed spot in the Swiss round, reminiscent of the recent VCS Hoàng Hôn 2023 finals against Team Whales.
