In the quarterfinals of the World Championship (Worlds) 2023, Weibo Gaming (WBG) was the only LPL team that did not face an LCK representative. They only had to contend with the LCS team NRG and convincingly won 3-0 to advance to the semifinals. For their first participation in Worlds, this is already a very good achievement for the WBG team.
Right after the first quarterfinal match ended, WBG’s support player – Crisp unexpectedly made a jab at an LCK team. The target he aimed at was KT Rolster (KT), suggesting that this team would not achieve better results than WBG. Perhaps Crisp hasn’t forgotten the loss to KT in the Swiss round, which is why he made such a statement.
“In the Swiss round, we indeed lost to G2 Esports and KT. The whole team had opportunities to win but couldn’t capitalize on them. Anyway, I just want to say that WBG has achieved better results than both G2 and KT in this Worlds,” Crisp shared after the quarterfinal match.
Crisp’s remarks seem to imply that KT will not be able to get past the quarterfinals of the 2023 Worlds. Meanwhile, G2 Esports has been eliminated and cannot achieve better results than WBG in this year’s Worlds. KT’s upcoming opponent – JD Gaming (JDG) is considered the strongest team in the world at the moment. Therefore, KT’s chances of winning appear quite low.
A rather interesting point between WBG and KT is that their journeys in the 2023 Worlds seem to be completely opposite. WBG has defeated three Western teams: NRG, MAD Lions, and Fnatic to pass through the Swiss round. In fact, this team only faced the LCS representative – NRG in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, KT faced all LCK and LPL representatives in the Swiss round and had to struggle very hard to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. They were so unlucky to face the mighty JDG, who are on a journey to conquer the “Grand Slam” in the upcoming match. Therefore, WBG’s path to the semifinals seems rather smooth, while this is nearly impossible for KT.
