In recent years, Knight has been considered one of the most promising Mid Lane stars in the LPL region. Specifically in 2023, Knight along with the JDG team has secured 2 LPL titles and the MSI 2023 championship. At MSI 2023, Knight also won the MVP title of the Finals with a brilliant performance.

Therefore, fans of both LPL and JDG had high hopes that Knight would continue to shine at Worlds 2023. However, this player’s performance turned out to be quite lackluster and did not leave much of an impression. Before the Semifinals took place, this had not been exploited as the JDG team had good team fight coordination. Furthermore, Ruler also had several stellar plays to cover up JDG’s weaknesses and Knight’s as well.
However, when facing a very strong team named T1, Ruler alone could no longer “carry” the team. Coupled with the low performance of the entire JDG team, they were defeated by T1 with a score of 1-3 and eliminated from Worlds 2023. This was a deserved result on a day when JDG underperformed while T1 played exceptionally well.

Personally for Knight, he leaves the tournament with the disappointing record of not having any MVP titles at Worlds 2023. Even in their previous victory against KT, it was Missing and Ruler who stood out as the players. This record is even worse than players like Contractz (NRG), Kiaya (GAM Esports), or Hans Sama (G2 Esports), all of whom had at least one MVP win in this tournament.

Perhaps the fear of failure and overly safe play from Knight has made him “invisible” at Worlds 2023. For instance, in the 4th game of the Semifinals against T1, Knight opted for the first two items that were extremely safe: the Crown of the Shattered Queen and Zhonya’s Hourglass. These provided good survivability but did not significantly increase damage output. As a result, JDG found themselves lacking damage in the mid-game and were defeated by T1.

Therefore, the defeat at Worlds 2023 will be an extremely valuable lesson for Knight. This player is highly regarded in the LPL, but the international stage is an entirely different story. If Knight cannot improve his competitive mentality or decision-making ability, it will be difficult for him to achieve a world championship title.
