As has been reported, T1 recently claimed the prestigious World Championship 2023 title after convincingly defeating Weibo Gaming (WBG) with a score of 3-0. This title holds significant meaning for the current T1 roster as they have repeatedly failed to conquer the World Championship in the previous years of 2021 and 2022. Additionally, this victory for T1 helps the LCK region retain the world championship trophy as Worlds 2023 was held in South Korea.

On the side of WBG, being completely defeated by T1 with such a significant score seems to have impacted the team greatly. A prime example is TheShy, who ended the Finals with a rather low KDA of 1/16/5 across 3 matches. Even in the post-match press conference, TheShy left open the possibility of continuing his professional career after this defeat.
“To be honest, my hand injury has been treated well over the past years. So I am healthy enough to continue playing. However, I don’t think taking a break in my career is a bad thing. I will take the upcoming time to consider my options,” TheShy shared after the Finals.

Essentially, this is not the first time TheShy has hinted at the intention to take a break from playing or even retire. Back in late 2020, when Invictus Gaming (at that time, TheShy was still with this team) went through an unsatisfactory season, the team considered retirement. In fact, TheShy had even contemplated a quiet life after retiring from competitive play.

Perhaps the severe hand injury he suffered and the long recovery time have led TheShy to consider retiring while still relatively young. However, TheShy can also look to Faker as a role model to strive and continue his journey in League of Legends. The Demon King also faced an injury this year but overcame it and performed excellently to secure the world championship.

After all, TheShy remains an outstanding Top Lane player and is receiving a lot of attention from the LPL region. It would be truly unfortunate if this player decided to retire after putting in significant efforts to help WBG achieve unexpected results at Worlds 2023.
