Gumayusi Throws Shade at Champion Based on His Own Playstyle

Gumayusi still cannot accept Riot's new champion design.

Gumayusi “calls out” Riot’s new champion

At the moment Riot teased the new champion Yunara, they made statements about the fact that this champion was inspired by the playstyle and champion pool of Gumayusi – the AD Carry from T1. Riot’s representative also admitted that they hoped to see Gumayusi use Yunara in professional matches. However, recently, the 2002-born player shared his experiences with Yunara in ranked and provided feedback that wasn’t very positive.

Yunara is a new champion designed by Riot, partly inspired by Gumayusi's playstyle.

Accordingly, Gumayusi commented on stream: “How should I put this, this Yunara doesn’t really have great laning capabilities, and her team fighting or ‘carrying the team’ is just average. To put it positively, everything is just above average, but if we look at it negatively, it’s not good; she doesn’t show much impact.”

Simply put, in Gumayusi’s opinion, the new champion Yunara does not excel in any role or possess any special abilities. Therefore, it may be a long time before Gumayusi actually brings this champion, which Riot designed partly inspired by himself, into competitive play.

But Gumayusi himself does not rate this champion highly.
But Gumayusi himself does not rate this champion highly.
From Gumayusi’s comments, it seems Riot is really facing many issues

In the past, Riot always had a champion design formula that made players initially feel uncomfortable, but over time they would become familiar: creating a truly strong champion and then based on player feedback, gradually nerfing them to an acceptable level. However, it seems that with Yunara, or previously with champions like Milio, Briar, Naafiri… they have not been utilized much. In fact, many players even “forgot” about Naafiri until Riot made recent adjustments.

Before Yunara, 2023 can be said to be a 'disaster' for Riot as 3 out of 4 champions released have almost 'disappeared' from professional League of Legends.

Riot’s inconsistent champion design performance, along with the fact that remakes are not always effective, is causing a significant number of League of Legends champions to remain “missing” even though the professional scene is implementing the Fearless Draft mode. And indeed, if Riot wants to see Gumayusi use Yunara, they should probably make updates soon to make this champion truly stand out more than she does now.
