Alongside the world’s top teams, the League of Legends audience in Vietnam has shown a significant interest in GAM Esports – the VCS representative competing at MSI 2024. This time around, GAM is predicted to face much more difficulty than before, as they have to battle against Top Esports and Fnatic for a spot in the group stage. However, with the match not yet over, anything can happen. Moreover, this has been a tumultuous Spring for Vietnamese League of Legends, and GAM bears the responsibility of working hard to regain the trust of their fans.

However, even before MSI 2024 began, GAM’s journey was fraught with challenges. First, while the entire team had obtained their visas and were preparing to travel to Chengdu, captain Levi fell seriously ill and had to be hospitalized, while team owner TK Nguyen was unable to secure a visa in time to travel with the team. Then, as they moved to Chengdu, the media team managed to get through without issues, while the main roster (which had to transit in Guangzhou) could not arrive on time due to flight delays caused by bad weather. According to information provided by GAM, the team was unable to move from 10 AM on April 27 until after 9 PM that same day.

After a turbulent 22-hour flight, another “disaster” struck when all of Levi‘s luggage was lost due to a flight change. According to GAM’s updates, it wasn’t until after 7 PM on April 28 (Vietnam time) that the team had their first meal in Chengdu.

Witnessing GAM’s journey, which has already been incredibly challenging, VCS fans have rallied to support and encourage the players. Additionally, some optimistic fans have commented: “This could be the basis for GAM to achieve something at MSI 2024. They say ‘every beginning is tough.’ As long as they don’t get discouraged, who knows they might perform well soon.”

Of course, that is also an optimistic perspective from fans and the hopes of Vietnamese League of Legends supporters for GAM this time at MSI. However, the reality remains: everything can only happen if the players are focused and put in the effort during the matches. Therefore, to truly make it happen, it ultimately depends on the members of the reigning VCS champions.
