LCK “Offends” Gen.G After Historic Achievement Resulting in T1 Also Getting “Caught in the Crossfire”

Gen.G brings home a historic achievement, but an action from LCK causes T1 to be "caught in the crossfire".

At the recent MSI 2024, Gen.G can be said to have partially recreated T1’s image at last year’s Worlds, defeating all LPL representatives in the tournament to claim the championship. Notably, the grand final was almost a showcase for Gen.G players, with the brightest star from Bilibili Gaming being Bin, who at times had to carry the entire team. Particularly, Peyz became the first player to achieve 28 kills in a grand final of an international League of Legends tournament. This also sets a record for the most kills in a single game at both MSI and Worlds.

More importantly, it was Gen.G, not any other team, that brought the MSI championship back to LCK after a long 7 years, since T1 last claimed the title at MSI 2017. However, at this moment, it seems unnecessary to say that there has been almost no activity surrounding the celebration of Gen.G’s championship from LCK or Riot. In fact, the spotlight currently belongs to T1 with the upcoming release of Worlds skins and Faker’s Hall of Legends.

However, inadvertently, the attention of the League of Legends community is currently focused on Faker's HoL

It is noteworthy that some of the honor images from Riot Korea for Gen.G were also taken from old photos during the LCK Spring 2024. This has sparked frustration among some Gen.G fans. For their part, the representatives of this team expressed their dissatisfaction, claiming that there has been an injustice when Gen.G brought a historic achievement to LCK. In fact, in their post, Gen.G representatives also recalled the achievement of Worlds 2017 (when they were still named Samsung Galaxy). For those who don’t know, in last year’s promotional videos for Worlds 2023 by LCK, there were SKT T1 2016, Damwon Gaming 2020, and DRX 2022 but SSG 2017 was missing.

“Gen.G brings the MSI championship back to LCK after 7 years with no acknowledgment from Riot. Even the images in the client are old. They deserve to be welcomed by LCK for such an achievement, and this is what has happened”
Post from Gen.G representatives:
Post from Gen.G representatives: “We have officially contacted LCK regarding the MSI 2024 championship not being represented in the Korean League of Legends client and are awaiting a response. We regret that it took so long to win an international tournament since SSG’s Worlds victory. This hard-fought victory is thanks to the efforts of the players and the support of fans. We will always strive and work hard with gratitude”

However, this incident sparked controversy among T1 fans, with many opinions stating that this issue has nothing to do with Faker and his teammates. The schedule for the HoL and Worlds 2023 skins had already been announced beforehand. Furthermore, T1 has also often been a “victim” of LCK and Riot. A prime example is during the Spring 2024 season when they were continuously DDoSed and had to resolve issues themselves, despite the fact that the well-being of players should be a concern for Riot and the organizers.

Many opinions assert that Riot Korea is indeed not handling things properly, but inadvertently Faker's HoL also steals the spotlight

“I don’t understand why they have to bring T1 into this? As if this is T1’s fault?”

Currently, Riot and LCK organizers have yet to make any statements regarding the incident. Meanwhile, for the League of Legends community, the trailers for Faker’s HoL skins have captured all the attention, and it seems Gen.G can only wait for an explanation from the responsible parties.
