At the MSI 2024 tournament recently, Gen.G successfully brought home the championship of the second-largest international tournament in the League of Legends scene back to the LCK. Notably, it has been over 6 years since SKT T1 won the MSI championship in 2017. Since then, teams from the Land of the Morning Calm have been incredibly “unlucky” with this title. Teams like Damwon Gaming and T1 have come closest to winning the MSI championship, but for various reasons, they have both fallen to the “MSI King” Royal Never Give Up in two finals. Therefore, Gen.G’s championship achievement is even more significant, especially as they crowned themselves in the land of a billion people after defeating the number one seed from the LPL – Bilibili Gaming.

However, in response to Gen.G’s remarkable achievements and milestones, there is a clear indifference from Riot and the LCK organizers. Several instances have been pointed out, such as the Korean League of Legends client still using images of Gen.G winning the LCK to illustrate the MSI title, or the lack of any formal honoring events for the champions. The situation escalated when the LCK organizers released a clip detailing Gen.G’s journey at MSI 2024, which only attracted… widespread outrage.
According to many analyses, this clip discusses Gen.G’s championship, but the duration dedicated to the champions only occupies about 10 minutes. Notably, there are many moments, milestones, and matches that Gen.G players showcased that deserve to be highlighted. However, it was condensed to just a few plays by Lehends. The content of the clip also spends a significant amount of time analyzing the meta shift – a playstyle deemed to have greatly contributed to Gen.G’s victory at MSI this time.

Many comments flooded the clip, with the majority expressing frustration at Riot’s apparent lack of respect for Gen.G with a clip considered “worse than fanmade”. Additionally, T1 was inadvertently “caught in the crossfire” as many comments recalled Faker’s Hall of Legends or stated, “if it were T1, there would be a different, more grand tribute.” Not to mention, a follow-up clip supposedly meant to introduce the event honoring Gen.G for fans was also deleted.

– This is truly disrespectful to Gen.G.
– Worst documentary ever, they didn’t have time for the champions and even provided incorrect information. Never make another one again.
– Do they even remember Gen.G won?
– I think LCK doesn’t want to remember Peyz’s achievement of 28 kills or Lehends’ Blitzcrank that earned him FMVP. What are they doing?

In reality, Gen.G’s MSI 2024 championship is very meaningful for both the team and the LCK. However, it seems that the reigning champions of the tournament have yet to receive the recognition they deserve after their efforts to bring the MSI title back to the Korean League of Legends scene.
