After a tumultuous Spring 2024 filled with the match-fixing scandal, as well as a pre-Summer 2024 period rife with drama, the VCS league has finally returned with a series of significant personnel changes across all teams. The number of teams participating in the Summer 2024 tournament has been reduced to just 7 names, and there are many fresh faces in the rosters that even long-time followers of League of Legends might not recognize. However, many fans hope that the recent scandal will help VCS truly evolve and become more professional.

The first two matches of VCS Summer 2024 did not disappoint the audience. The teams played very cautiously and minimized mistakes. In particular, in both matches, the audience was astonished by the macro abilities of teams like Team Secret and Vikings Esports. It can be said that these matches were incredibly watchable. On the first day of competition, TS and VKE were the two teams that emerged victorious.

More importantly, the audience also felt satisfied with the matches that showcased a higher level of professionalism. Not to mention, the new players of VCS, and even a star who seemed to be past his prime like Meliodas, gave impressive performances full of effort. Many viewers noted that these were exciting matches, and the teams executed macro strategies “on par with the LCK”. Additionally, young players brought many surprises with unconventional picks that rarely appeared in recent metas, such as Sivir or Gwen.

Of course, it is difficult to determine whether the VCS has truly improved in quality based on just the first couple of matches. However, it is clear that the audience’s reception is what the professional League of Legends scene in Vietnam needs most at this moment. The performance of the teams received well-deserved cheers, especially from the fans—those who have endured significant damage to their trust following the recent match-fixing scandal.
