League of Legends May Be Absent from the National Team Esports Tournament in the Future
Starting in 2024, the Esports World Cup has emerged and quickly attracted the attention of the global esports community. Not only does it provide another tournament for players to compete in, but it also comes with enormous prize pools that can help esports teams tackle financial issues, as the EWC is organized by investors from Saudi Arabia. Recently, these investors in the “oil kingdom” have a bolder idea: an EWC version for national-level esports teams.

Accordingly, the new tournament could be named the Esports Nations Cup and could very well become the “first real World Cup of esports” since, after all, the World Cup is a national team level tournament, but for the past two years, the EWC has only included club-level participation. However, according to some predictions, the chance of the “national” esports game League of Legends being absent is quite high.

According to many opinions, currently, many countries are not strong in this game. It would not be an exaggeration to say that League of Legends is now perhaps just a playground for Korea and China. Even European and American teams, which now have national rosters, struggle to compete for the title. Even China may not be as strong as Korea in League of Legends.
If an esports game can predict 90% of the teams that will reach the finals before even competing, the likelihood of that game being excluded from the list is very high.

However, the fate of League of Legends and this esports tournament remains in the future
Currently, apart from the announcement of the tournament’s name and the projected time (2026), there is still no information about the Esports Nations Cup. However, this also presents an opportunity for countries with promising esports potential, like Vietnam, to develop, especially as Vietnamese teams have already made significant marks in various esports disciplines.
