Esports World Cup Champion, Faker Sets New Record That Leaves His Peers in Awe

Even a small achievement at the Esports World Cup makes it hard for the generations following Faker to keep up.

If we had to identify the standout player from T1 after the matches at the Esports World Cup 2024, especially the final, many viewers would immediately think of Faker. The Mid Laner from T1 not only played well to help his teammates defeat Top Esports, but he also used some very “unusual” champion picks that Faker rarely chose in previous matches. A prime example is Yasuo in game 4. In fact, many viewers thought that once Faker locked in his “signature champion,” the match would inevitably stretch to a fifth game. However, T1 ultimately ended the match after 4 games, claiming the championship title in League of Legends at EWC 2024.

With his MVP achievement in League of Legends at EWC 2024, Faker also earned a prize of $50,000. However, a newly established record of Faker is worth noting. Specifically, the Mid Laner from T1 has become the first player in League of Legends history to achieve MVP in every tournament he has participated in to date. Specifically, Faker was the MVP of MSI (2016), Worlds (2016), and he has also claimed MVP titles in domestic leagues (OGN, LCK) in 2013 and 2014. He was even the MVP of a finals match in the LCK (2015).

This impressive collection of personal achievements alone makes it very difficult for many of Faker’s younger peers, such as Chovy or ShowMaker, to catch up. For those who may not know, despite having won multiple LCK championships with Gen.G and recently the MSI 2024, Chovy has only achieved 2 domestic MVP titles (Spring 2019 and Spring 2024). On the international stage, both his personal achievements and team titles remain quite sparse despite having competed for over 7 years.

Of course, the future is hard to predict. However, with such an impressive list of personal achievements, it will be very challenging for anyone to catch up to Faker, especially when those personal titles come from top-tier tournaments like Worlds or MSI. Faker himself surely has not set a stopping point and will want to conquer many more milestones in the near future, which will be a real challenge for anyone on the path to achieving the Golden Road or Grand Slam titles in the League of Legends scene.
