Not long ago, Gen.G brought home the MSI 2024 championship for LCK. This is the first MSI title for the Land of the Morning Calm in over 7 years since SKT T1 last won this tournament. Of course, MSI is still hard to compare to Worlds in terms of scale and significance, but nonetheless, this is a historic milestone. Moreover, for Gen.G and its players like Chovy, Peyz, Lehends, and Kiin, this is their first international title. However, many Gen.G fans noticed that the LCK Organizing Committee and Riot did not make any grand gestures to congratulate the new champions returning from Chengdu.

After many days of waiting, fans finally saw Riot officially post a “top highlight” clip of Gen.G at MSI 2024 as a way to honor the moments that made them champions. However, while many Gen.G fans were believing that Riot and the LCK Organizing Committee were “disrespecting” their team, viewers discovered that only Gen.G had the privilege of having a highlight clip made for their journey in an international tournament. Previously, even T1 – the team with the most Worlds championships or Royal Never Give Up – the team with the most MSI championships did not have this privilege.

In reality, the delay from Riot in releasing the clip might actually be an oversight from the organization and the LCK Organizing Committee. At this point, the “hype” of MSI 2024 is no longer as high as it was in the two weeks following the tournament. Not to mention, Gen.G just faced a defeat at the 2024 Esports World Cup with a score of 0-2 against Top Esports and was eliminated early. Therefore, this clip release from Riot, viewed positively, could be seen as a consolation for Gen.G fans. However, from another perspective, it might feel like “rubbing salt” into the wounds of their EWC 2024 experience.

But still, Gen.G fans can be somewhat satisfied as their team is receiving an unprecedented “privilege”. Furthermore, Gen.G is also soaring high on the LCK Summer 2024 leaderboard and is likely to secure their fifth consecutive domestic championship. Fans just have to wait and see how Gen.G will perform in the upcoming international arena.
