Facing an undefeated Gen.G at this point was probably the toughest challenge for KT Rolster in the second round of the LCK Summer Split 2024. In fact, KT was under even more suspicion after unexpectedly losing to OKSavingsBank BRION and Kwangdong Freecs – two previously weaker opponents. The possibility of a quick defeat for KT seemed even more apparent as Gen.G took the lead after the first game, showcasing the strength of the new champion Aurora. However, an earthquake occurred at LoL Park, and KT successfully turned the tide thanks to the outstanding performance of all five members in the remaining two games.

KT’s victory undoubtedly owes a great deal to the tireless efforts of the players, even when they were at a significant disadvantage. However, an equally important factor was Gen.G’s overconfidence in their matchup against the only team that had previously beaten them in the Spring Split. No one understands why Chovy, instead of using some familiar champions, decided to bring out Draven – a very risky pick. Or how Kiin’s continuous initiation attempts that lacked clear targets contributed to “helping” KT gain the space and time to counterattack.

Additionally, KT’s bold playstyle could serve as a solid reference for other teams facing Gen.G. In the recent match, Pyosik had at least three surprising initiation plays that allowed KT to burst down a Gen.G champion in the blink of an eye. The decisiveness of Pyosik, BeryL, and Bdd made Gen.G hesitate despite having numerous advantages at that moment.

The victory against Gen.G allows KT to regain control over their playoff ticket. Meanwhile, Gen.G may not be too troubled by the loss, even though their undefeated streak was unexpectedly shut down. However, this defeat serves as a valuable lesson for Gen.G to reflect on and come up with better strategies for the remainder of the 2024 season.
