Knight sets a “huge” record with BLG
On August 30, the LPL Summer 2024 Grand Finals officially concluded with BLG convincingly defeating WBG with a score of 3-0. This win secured Knight and his teammates the number one seed from the LPL region heading into the upcoming 2024 World Championship. With a compelling performance throughout the group stage, main stage, and playoffs, BLG stands as the greatest hope for the LPL region at this year’s World Championship.

On a personal level, Knight has also set an extremely “huge” record at LPL with this recent victory. Specifically, Knight is the first player in LPL history to win the regional tournament 4 consecutive times. Remember that in the 2023 season, Knight, along with JDG, claimed both regional titles. Even after moving to BLG in the 2024 season, Knight continued to secure the LPL championship in both the spring and summer tournaments.

Knight openly states that he is currently not a “superstar”
Knight’s “huge” achievement has indeed attracted a lot of attention in the LPL. The reason is that Knight is one of the few Mid Laners who has maintained good performance over many LPL seasons. Even after switching to the new team BLG, Knight quickly adapted to his new teammates and helped this team become an unstoppable force in the regional competition. However, in a post-match interview, Knight still claimed that he does not consider himself a “superstar” as many people have evaluated.
“I am very happy to have secured the number one seed from the LPL. The failures in previous World Championships are valuable experiences for me. Therefore, I really want to perform well at this year’s World Championship and win the title. Right now, I am not a superstar as many people call me. I believe that only by winning the World Championship can I prove myself as an excellent player. I hope that will happen in the upcoming World Championship,” Knight shared.

Indeed, looking back on the past, the World Championships have always been sad memories for Knight. He has participated in 3 World Championships (2020, 2022, 2023) but has failed in different ways. In fact, the failure at the 2022 World Championship can be considered particularly heavy when his team, TES, did not advance past the group stage after unexpectedly losing to GAM Esports. Even when coming in as a major championship contender at the 2023 World Championship, Knight still faced defeat while wearing the JDG jersey.

Clearly, with such a painful history, Knight is certainly not satisfied with just winning the LPL title. This player needs a World Championship title to elevate himself to the “superstar” level and affirm his strength. Moreover, the appeal of the LPL has noticeably decreased this season, so a potential World Championship title for BLG would have a tremendous impact in helping to attract audiences back to this tournament. Hopefully, at the upcoming 2024 World Championship, Knight can maintain his best form to compete successfully and overcome the “haunting” failures of the past.
