LPL Teams Unveil Skins for Worlds 2024
With the regional qualifiers for Worlds 2024 concluding, almost all slots for the biggest international tournament of the year in the League of Legends scene have been filled. Only the LCS region and three spots from the LCK along with one position in the Play-In stage of CBLOL remain undecided. Last season, T1 defeated all four LPL teams on their journey to the championship, which is truly hard to accept for Chinese League of Legends. Thus, LPL can be said to be very determined this time around, especially since Bilibili Gaming also missed out on MSI 2024 after a loss to Gen.G.

Recently, all four LPL teams held a kickoff ceremony for the upcoming Worlds 2024. This is an annual event for major tournaments to announce skins for the competition and also to inform the audience about the roster that will participate in Worlds shortly after. Additionally, the event allows players to share their thoughts on the past season and express their determination for the biggest tournament of the year in the League of Legends scene. A common theme among the four teams participating in Worlds 2024 from LPL: All four teams debuted in white outfits.

Does LPL Need to Invoke “Spiritual Strength” at Worlds 2024?
As many viewers have observed for a long time, Worlds seems to have an “unwritten tradition” where if one team wears colored uniforms, the next championship-winning team will wear white. Notably, this has existed since the early days of the Worlds, when Fnatic, in their orange uniforms, claimed their first championship in 2011, and the following year, the champion Taipei Assassins wore predominantly white outfits. This pattern has been repeated in subsequent years as an “unwritten rule”.

Of course, the most important factors for a team to win are the skills, form, and focus of all members. But as with any major competition, luck plays a crucial role in League of Legends—a game heavily influenced by probabilities, from the mechanics applied to skills in the game to player reflexes. Moreover, LPL is very determined to win the Worlds championship, so it’s not too surprising that they also invoke “spiritual strength”.
