3 Champions Retained and Reworked by Riot in Teamfight Tactics Season 6.5: The Dominant and the Support

The power of champions favored by Riot in Teamfight Tactics Season 6.5 proves to be extremely distinct.

Vi

In the first half of Teamfight Tactics Season 6, Vi was not a standout champion, primarily tasked with enhancing the damage of the Brawler team through her ability to reduce armor. Additionally, at a cost of 2 gold, Vi struggled to compete with other stronger units that scaled better later in the game, such as Kog’Maw or Trundle. Even with the activation of the Sister trait, Vi was not a particularly strong piece; instead, her support capability was only slightly better.

However, in Season 6.5, Vi has been increased to a 4-gold champion and now possesses an ability that can deal damage and control opponents much more effectively. Moreover, with the introduction of the Swift Justice technology core, champions like Vi will be able to execute enemies much better. Additionally, the pace of the game in Season 6.5 has slowed significantly, giving 4-cost champions like Vi plenty of opportunities to level up and secure victories.

Swain

In contrast to Vi, Swain is facing a rather “tragic” fate in Season 6.5, as this piece is no longer as valued as it once was. The reason is that the Empire trait has been removed, and Swain can no longer “hack damage” and easily blow away opponents like before. Furthermore, Swain’s new trait – Hextech – seems to have an effect that does not align with the character’s magical damage nature at all.

Basically, the Hextech trait provides a shield effect, and during its duration, champions will deal additional magical damage on attacks. However, Swain is a strong magical damage dealer aimed at healing, so he does not prioritize stats like attack speed as Riot intended. As a result, this unit is often replaced in the Hextech team when players begin to complete their line-up with Hextech and Striker units, and there’s no need for an average tank like Swain.

Talon

Essentially, the way to play Talon in Season 6.5 remains largely unchanged from Season 6, as this unit still requires items like Infinity Edge, Quicksilver, and Rapid Firecannon. Although he also lost the Empire effect like Swain, Talon can deal a significant amount of true damage thanks to the VIP effect from the Idol trait. Therefore, Talon becomes increasingly dangerous in the early game when enemy champions lack substantial defensive capabilities.

Another factor that makes Talon increasingly valuable in Season 6.5 is the removal of other units like Shaco and Akali. Consequently, Talon has transformed from merely serving as a trait activator and contributing damage to becoming a formidable core in the early game. It wouldn’t be surprising if in the upcoming Season 6.5, the Assassin team remains a very strong reroll strategy with Talon as the main character at 3 stars.
