A former Worlds champion is at risk of missing out despite securing a spot for this year’s tournament
As has been noted, at this point, almost all the spots for Worlds 2024 across all regions have been determined. Among them, the LPL is one of the major regions that confirmed all four spots for the biggest tournament in the League of Legends scene for 2024 the earliest. It’s unfortunate that the former MSI 2023 champion, JD Gaming, will be absent after losing to Weibo Gaming in the regional qualifiers. However, another unfortunate absence may soon occur, as Scout is facing some troubles.

Specifically, the former Worlds champion of 2021, after winning with Edward Gaming, managed to stay for another year but could not help the traditional LPL team replicate their glorious achievements. EDG’s performance has been declining, and Scout has moved on to seek a new future with LNG Esports. However, trouble has not spared the former T1 player as he has become embroiled in a messy lawsuit with his former team EDG.
The former Worlds champion has taken even more drastic action, as according to some sources from the LPL, he has decided to appeal after recently losing the lawsuit and is requesting the court to prevent Scout from leaving China.

Consequences for the Mid Lane Former Worlds Champion
Currently, Scout’s side has not made any official announcements regarding the situation, but it has caused quite a stir in the LPL community. After all, the “Suzhou Unicorn” reaching Worlds 2024 owes a lot to Scout. If he is unable to go to London, LNG will face a tremendous loss. Additionally, in the context where the LPL has suffered a setback at MSI earlier this year, many fans are worried that Chinese League of Legends teams may continue to “suffer” at the upcoming Worlds if there is any depletion of their roster.

However, sources from the LPL have also indicated that they are trying to call for EDG to lift the ban on Scout. If not, they will have to look for alternative solutions, but that will still be a last resort.
