Is Chovy about to “part ways” with Gen.G?
In the LCK region, Gen.G has been regarded as a “super team” for the past three years, boasting many renowned stars. With superstars like Chovy, Lehends, and more recently Canyon and Kiin, Gen.G has clinched numerous LCK titles as well as the prestigious MSI 2024 championship. However, their failure at the 2024 World Championship has put the team in a rather “dire” situation, facing the risk of losing several key players in the upcoming season.

First, news that 7 out of 8 teams in the LCK (excluding T1) will undergo roster changes has left Gen.G fans worried. Furthermore, rumors have surfaced that Kiin and Lehends may leave to join KDF. Even the two key stars, Canyon and Chovy, are approaching the end of their contracts with Gen.G. Many sources suggest that Chovy is no longer fully committed to staying with Gen.G and is open to offers from other teams.

It’s important to note that in the current Gen.G lineup, only Peyz is a homegrown player developed by this team. Meanwhile, stars like Kiin, Canyon, Chovy, and even Lehends were brought in from the transfer market. This inadvertently puts immense pressure on Gen.G to create a sufficiently attractive contract to retain their key stars.
A “big spender” from LPL is determined to acquire Chovy
This pressure is even greater for Gen.G as a formidable rival has entered the race for Chovy’s signature. According to former coach Hanyi, WBG is very committed to acquiring the Korean star to build a “super team” for the upcoming 2025 season. They even plan to part ways with Crisp and bring in Meiko to ensure they have the strongest roster.
Former coach Hanyi revealed: “WBG no longer wants Crisp and is looking to acquire Meiko. For the mid lane, they are targeting either Knight or Chovy. In the top lane, Breath or 369 are being considered. There are many good options for the jungle position such as Tarzan, Wei, and Jiejie. WBG is also weighing options between GALA and Light for the AD Carry position. BLG will have no difficulty re-signing their entire roster.”

It’s worth noting that in recent years, WBG has also had impressive results in the LPL as well as at international tournaments. They were the runners-up at the 2023 World Championship and at the recent 2024 World Championship, WBG reached the quarter-finals, only losing to BLG. Despite their good performance, these were all painful defeats for WBG as they were very close to the highest glory. Perhaps this is why WBG is taking steps towards building a “super team” to seek revenge in the upcoming 2025 season.

Of course, the information above is still at the rumor stage and only indicates that WBG is interested in Chovy. Nevertheless, if this player does go abroad (if it happens), it would be a significant opportunity to challenge himself and conquer new heights. If WBG truly manages to recruit Chovy (and other names like Meiko, GALA…), they will be a team to watch in the upcoming season.
