Former LPL Champion Pursues Both Bin and Chovy but Becomes a “Laughing Stock”

The pursuit of Bin and Chovy by this team has unexpectedly turned into a "laughing stock" for LPL fans.

Former “Champion” of LPL Publicly Pursues Bin and Chovy

The 2024 World Championship can be considered a failure for the LPL region as they were unable to secure this prestigious title. This is seen as the “last straw” that has led many teams in the region to seek a “refresh” to create better competitiveness for the next season. Coupled with the fact that bright stars of League of Legends like Bin and Chovy are approaching the expiration of their contracts, the competition among teams has become fierce even before the new season begins.

Recently, another name that was once very prominent in the past, EDG, has also joined the race for the signatures of both Bin and Chovy. According to comments from former EDG youth coach – Lao Yue, this team is planning to acquire these two stars in the future. Furthermore, EDG is also rumored to be pursuing Peyz amid Gen.G’s desire to bring back Ruler. In terms of support, EDG is also looking to acquire another star named Meiko.

Ambition to Acquire Both Bin and Chovy, EDG Faces Fan Backlash

Right after this information was shared, it became a topic of discussion among many gamers in the LPL region. However, fans believe this is a “fanciful” plan from EDG as they pursue too many stars at once. The reason stems from the fact that EDG itself is facing considerable financial difficulties and has had to sell off many quality players, making the recruitment of “superstars” like Bin or Chovy nearly impossible.

In the past, EDG was considered a “champion” team in the LPL with many regional titles. In fact, they were the first LPL team to win a Riot international tournament when they claimed the MSI 2015 title. However, after stars like Scout, Viper, and most recently Meiko left one by one, EDG has “plummeted” and lost its standing in the LPL. Even in the recent LPL Summer 2024, this team performed poorly enough to not have enough points in the group stage to qualify for the playoffs.

It is very likely that the “embarrassing” failure mentioned above has led the management of this team to be determined to make a comeback and outline a transfer plan like the one above. However, the status and financial potential of EDG is currently very different from about three years ago, making it nearly impossible for them to recruit “superstars” like Bin or Chovy. Perhaps EDG should aim for a more realistic target of building a team capable of competing in the top 6 or top 8 of the LPL instead of trying to chase plans with such a low success rate.
