The Rise of Malzahar – The Black Rose in TFT Season 13
Just a few days ago, patch 14.23b of TFT Season 13 was officially updated with a significant nerf to the unit Violet, Gangplank, aimed at reducing the strength of reroll compositions. This has greatly strengthened the playstyle of saving gold and leveling up, as players no longer lose much health in the mid-game. At that time, high-level players on the LPL Super Server discovered the infinite damage potential of Malzahar and combined this unit with the resilient Black Rose composition.

In terms of damage output, when casting his ability, Malzahar will apply stacks of contagion to 5 targets in a straight line and deal continuous damage. Furthermore, that target will have reduced magic resistance and can be rapidly eliminated by magic damage dealers. Even if an enemy champion is defeated, the contagion stacks will continue to bounce to other units, creating an extremely powerful damage potential. Therefore, as long as there is a sufficiently sturdy frontline, Malzahar can easily take down the opposing team.
Building the Malzahar – The Black Rose Composition in TFT Season 13
In the early game, players should aim to activate the 2 Conqueror trait with cheap but strong units like Rell, Darius, or Draven. This will help increase resources to focus on saving gold and leveling up faster in the mid-game. Additionally, players can consider using units like Morgana and Vladimir to enhance magic damage and equip items for the carry in the later stages.

By the mid-game, players need to bring Cassiopeia onto the board to activate the 3 Black Rose trait and gain another quality frontline unit. Swain is also an extremely strong choice at this stage as it allows players to adapt their composition flexibly according to the situation in the match. If there is a lack of frontline, Swain in the frontline is a great option due to its continuous healing capability. Even when equipped with damage items and positioned in the backline, Swain can fulfill the carry role effectively in the mid-game.

After reaching level 9, players will need to spend gold to look for key units such as LeBlanc, Elise, Malzahar, or Heimerdinger. Garen is also a fantastic choice to activate the 2 Overseer trait with Vladimir and increase the frontline’s durability. Additionally, Nunu is another excellent option late in the game to activate the 2 Brawler and Seer traits, saving space for other powerful units.

Some Notes When Building the Composition
When assembling items, players should focus on creating the Lightning Bow early to increase damage for magic carries. Additionally, the Spear of Shojin or Nashor’s Tooth are items that should be assembled immediately as both Heimerdinger, Malzahar, and Morgana perform well with these items in the early game. Regarding the Augment, upgrades that provide additional experience or gold should be chosen early to ensure players reach level 9 faster.
