Gen.G 2025 is Quite Similar to KT 2023
Recently, Gen.G unexpectedly lost to KT in the Round 2 playoffs of LCK 2025. This can be described as a shocking victory for KT, as they were nowhere near Gen.G in terms of performance from their recent encounters. KT even struggled to overcome BNK FearX beforehand. However, it is from this point that people have discovered Gen.G shares many similarities with KT from the 2023 season.

Firstly, both teams topped the group stage with a “devastating” record, losing only 1 BO3 match in the year they dominated. Next, both teams reached Round 2 in the playoffs and had the right to choose their opponent from one of the two teams that advanced from Round 1. And of course, the results for both teams were the same: defeat against the very opponent they chose, with the same score of 2-3.

Additionally, both KT 2023 and Gen.G 2025 share another common point: at the corresponding time, they both had Kiin as the Top Laner in their lineup. In their losses (against T1 and KT), Kiin was also the standout player.
The Possibility of Gen.G Following KT’s ‘Path of Despair’ is Real
In 2023, after losing to T1, KT still managed to secure the number 3 seed (behind Gen.G and T1 to reach the World Championship). However, in that tournament, KT plummeted and was the first LCK team to exit the tournament.

Of course, Gen.G’s loss could just be an “accident” and they may not follow the “path of despair” of the very opponent that just defeated them. However, currently, Gen.G has for the first time in many years fallen into the loser bracket and this bracket always holds surprises. When teams are pushed to the wall, they can create seismic shifts, as KT did in the last match, which is a prime example.
