Gen.G and the “blemishes” in the history of this team
At present, Gen.G is the strongest team in the LCK, there’s no debate about that. Moreover, on the international stage, Gen.G is also a top-tier team despite a puzzling stumble at the First Stand 2026. However, when looking at the broader history, Gen.G is also a team that has often brought shame to the LCK on the international arena. This is due to the high expectations placed on the elite roster that Gen.G has and continues to possess, yet accompanied by a series of losses with alarming margins for this team.

Specifically, in the history of international tournaments featuring LCK teams, there have only been 7 instances where teams from the Korean League of Legends faced a clean sweep of 0-3 against their opponents. Specifically, these losses were against TES (MSC 2020), G2 (Worlds 2020), BLG (MSI 2023), and G2 (First Stand 2026). Moreover, Gen.G is the only LCK team that has finished in 3rd-4th place at all international tournaments within Riot’s system to date.

Yet Gen.G remains the “flagship” of the LCK on the international stage
Despite their defeat at First Stand 2026, one fact remains that Gen.G will still be the “vanguard” of the LCK in international tournaments this season. The reigning LCK champions are still among the most comprehensive teams at the moment. Not to mention, the upcoming MSI – the second largest international tournament of the year, is a stage where Gen.G is one of the teams with the most championships – with 2 consecutive titles.

However, the loss to G2 has revealed many issues within Gen.G that they need to address. Over time, Gen.G’s players cannot maintain peak performance indefinitely. And at that point, it is very likely that the loss to G2 is just a warning for a team that has been accustomed to dominating the League of Legends scene.
