Although the most spectacular introduction that players care about in Teamfight Tactics is the champions, the items in this game also play an extremely decisive role. Just combining one item incorrectly can significantly weaken one of your team’s carry champions, so using items in “auto chess” requires utmost caution.

And the lead designer of Teamfight Tactics – Riot Mortdog has brought good news to players as just a few hours ago, he revealed the new item combining rule when upgrading champions. Specifically, when upgrading a champion, items on a champion currently on the battlefield will be prioritized to stay when upgrading to a higher-level champion, while items from the bench will automatically return to the inventory.

Not only that, Riot Mortdog also shared the priority order for items “stay or go” when upgrading champions as follows: Thief’s Gloves on the battlefield > Full items on the battlefield > Single items on the battlefield > Thief’s Gloves on the bench > Full items on the bench > Single items on the bench. If the situation arises where champions are in the same state, the item for the higher-level champion will be random.

Many cases in the current version show that players choose necessary champions but hold weak or useless items in the shared selection to combine into 2 stars, but when they finish combining, important items are ejected outside, and the champions are fully equipped, turning a win into a loss. This change from Riot Games will help players be assured that they will always have the necessary items for their champions without the fear of losing important items when taking risks in the shared selection.

These updates will be applied in version 10.7, set to launch right on April Fool’s Day, April 1st (U.S. time).
