Perhaps the hottest topic that everyone is currently concerned about is none other than the terrifying spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The reaction of most businesses, including Riot Games, has been to allow their employees to work online to maintain operations. This is particularly significant for gamers as they wonder what else to do at home besides playing League of Legends.

In his latest video, Joe “New001” Tung, the production lead of League of Legends, delivered very meaningful messages during this pandemic season. A representative from Riot Games stated that they have donated medical supplies worth 3.5 million USD (approximately 82.2 billion VND) to charitable organizations worldwide. Joe also committed to maintaining the highest quality of service so that gamers can confidently play League of Legends at home during this pandemic.

A Message From Joe and the League Dev Team – League of Legends

Production lead of League of Legends – Joe “New001” Tung: “Hello everyone, it’s Joe here representing the League of Legends production and design team. As you might guess, just like everyone else around the world, in the past few weeks, the League design team has transitioned to working from home to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

For us, as game developers, it is a great pride to hear so many stories about how games have been a tool to connect friends and families during this pandemic. We humbly say that games like League of Legends have made a small contribution to helping people get through this difficult time.

“Joking around” by turning Volibear into Annie’s pet might be a way for Riot staff to entertain themselves while working online.

To combat the pandemic, Riot Games has donated medical supplies valued at 3.5 million USD (equivalent to 82.5 billion VND) to charitable organizations worldwide. In the coming weeks, we will explore more ways to support the community.

We have to admit that this situation has come as a surprise, and we are in the process of understanding how the pandemic affects the plans we had set since the beginning of the year. We want you to know that the team will work as hard as possible to maintain the best service for gamers during this time.

We hope that the rework of Volibear won't be delayed due to the impact of Covid-19
We hope that the rework of Volibear won’t be delayed due to the impact of Covid-19.

I also want to say a little about Esports tournaments; the truth is we are very disappointed to have to postpone the schedule for MSI 2020 due to the pandemic. Riot Games has worked tirelessly to bring back major tournaments like LCK, LPL, LEC, LCS… in an online format. This provides audiences with new experiences when following Esports events.

Finally, we know that it is currently very difficult, if not impossible, for you to play games with friends in real life. Therefore, we will find ways to help you connect more easily while playing League of Legends, one of which is bringing back the Clash mode earlier than expected. Lastly, thank you all very much, stay safe and play League of Legends at home!”

Previously, the mayor of Los Angeles – Mr. Eric Garcetti announced the honor of Riot Games – the company that just donated 1.5 million USD (equivalent to over 35 billion VND) to non-profit organizations and relief funds in California to support Covid-19 prevention efforts.

Among the 1.5 million USD donated, two co-founders of Riot Games – Marc “Tryndamere” Merill and Brandon “Ryze” Beck each contributed 500,000 USD. The remaining amount was contributed by the Riot staff operating at the headquarters in the United States. With the additional donation of 3.5 million USD in medical supplies to charitable organizations worldwide, Riot has dedicated a total of 5 million USD (approximately 117.5 billion VND) to combat Covid-19.

As for gamers, you can rest assured that your favorite game is still running smoothly and receiving regular updates even during the pandemic. All you need to do is stay home and play League of Legends to contribute significantly to fighting the pandemic.
