One of the quite unique advantages that Riot Games brings to VALORANT is that players can change their names for free once every 30 days. This is a relatively new feature for products owned by Riot.

Explaining this issue, some gamers argue that the difference lies in the fact that VALORANT currently allows players to sync their information with Riot ID, meaning that when Riot ID information is updated, the user data of VALORANT also changes accordingly.
Moreover, editing a Riot account is completely free, with the only limitation being the interval between changes (as mentioned above), which means that every 30 days, VALORANT players can have a new “identity”.

Although the name change feature doesn’t significantly affect gameplay, the League of Legends community has the reason to “envy” their VALORANT counterparts, as many League of Legends players wish to change their nicknames (Summoner Names) for various reasons, whether it’s because they hastily chose a name they didn’t like, thought of a cooler name, or simply wanted… a fresh start.
However, as is well known, changing names in League of Legends requires players to spend RP or Blue Essence. Although publishers often discount the “name change card” item, or players in other servers can change names through… grinding, ultimately discounted items are still converted into currency, so many players, despite wanting to change their names, are “hesitant to spend money”.

In fact, Riot has reasons to charge for name changes in League of Legends. In VALORANT, regardless of what name you change to, the Riot ID stats remain, and there’s no way for players to change names to evade “wanted” status after violating game rules or community standards.
However, in League of Legends, player accounts from many regions such as SEA or China do not belong to the Riot ID database, and moreover, the number of League of Legends players is several dozen times larger than that of VALORANT, so if everyone could freely change their names, it would be very difficult for publishers to control bad behavior.
