A Sad Ending for Omnistone – Riot Games Plans to Rework It Due to Its Weakness, Players Demand Removal

Riot Games is not pleased with Omnistone's performance and it is likely to be reworked in the upcoming patches.

In the preseason of 2020, the pivotal change in League of Legends was probably the removal of the Keystone Rune Omnistone from the game. This change allowed tank champions, in particular, and melee champions in general, to have a more stable laning phase rather than becoming a “money pit” for opponents to exploit as before. However, the rune replacing Omnistone, which is Omnistone itself, has not produced anything particularly outstanding, and only a few players have tried it as a situational choice.

When choosing a rune, you determine your playstyle around it; otherwise, the ultimate rune you choose must align with the champion’s nature or skill set. However, Omnistone does not function that way; using this rune feels like playing the lottery—if you’re lucky, you get a “good” rune, if not, you end up with an unsuitable one.

Since the design phase of League of Legends, Riot aimed to minimize randomness, so it’s puzzling why they created such a 'hit or miss' rune like Omnistone

This excessive randomness has led players to bypass Omnistone; even Ezreal, the champion thought to utilize this rune best, opts for Conqueror or Fleet Footwork, which provide much more stable power. Riot Games understands this as well, and the rework, changes, or addition of replacement runes to address Omnistone’s issues is just a matter of time.

Essentially, Riot Games’ idea with Omnistone is quite nice, but they made this rune operate on a random mechanism which frustrates players immensely. Why should I gamble my lane win and the champion’s power on such a random rune? Hopefully, Riot Games will quickly implement necessary changes to this rune.
