Sometimes in a match, you build a very strong composition as intended, yet you still can’t secure a top 1 without understanding the reason. The reason for this is that compositions in Teamfight Tactics Season 3 have a certain “counter-counter” dynamic with each other; it’s tough to win if your opponent is a significant counter to you.

So how can you understand this countering dynamic? The answer lies in playing a lot with various compositions; however, time is limited, and to help players grasp this, top-tier player from Teamfight Tactics, KitingisHard, has conducted research for us and presented a “counter-counter” diagram among the most popular compositions in the current meta.

Notes
Each composition is represented by a colored cell; the intersection cell between two compositions indicates which composition wins, where the corresponding color represents the counter to the other composition.
Rebels: Rebellion
Low Dark Star: Slow rolling Dark Star composition.
High Dark Star: Fast rolling Dark Star composition.
Space Jam: Darius – Pirate – Cosmos composition
Bladebros: Blademaster – Time Warp with Master Yi as the main damage dealer.
Mech Inf: Pilot – Spy composition.
High Cyber: Fast rolling Cyber composition.
Low Cyber: Slow rolling Cyber composition.
E – girls: Star Guardian – Sorceress composition.
Brawler Blaster: Brawler – Gunner composition.

We can see that according to KitingisHard’s statistics, the safest composition to climb ranks is the Blademaster – Time Warp with Master Yi as the main damage dealer. This composition is almost a counter to every other composition, except in cases where the opponent is very lucky or you are extremely unlucky, and you can be assured of achieving a top 4 position quite easily if played normally.

Another strong composition that counters the meta is the fast rolling Dark Star, boasting up to 7 winning matchups. Although it has been nerfed, the strength of this trait remains extremely stable; if you obtain Jhin early (before level 6) and stop at level 7 to roll for 3-star units, it is very difficult to lose when you have powerful 3-cost units like Shaco and Lux.

The same goes for the Pirate – Cosmos composition centered around Darius “The God of Supplements”; this is also a 3-star rolling composition and creates a massive snowball effect in the mid-game. Remember that in patch 10.8, the damage of surviving units has increased significantly, creating opportunities for strong snowball strategies to thrive, and 3-star rolling compositions are typical examples; thus, the strategy of leveling up early and rolling fast is becoming the current meta.

Hopefully, this guide from the Challenger player will help you choose the most suitable composition to quickly climb ranks and counter opponents as much as possible.
