Recently, Inven Global reported that Riot Games Korea has announced a law regarding the unilateral release of contracts for players.
Specifically, this law was shared by a representative from Riot Korea: “Players have the right to unilaterally terminate their contracts if their team is no longer competing in the current league. For example, from LCK to CK, or from CK to LCK.”

This means that for teams that are promoted or relegated, all their players will become Free Agents and can freely choose their new destination. At first glance, this law seems to benefit the players; however, it poses a significant disadvantage for the teams, as they have no means to ‘tie down’ their players, except for negotiating a new contract in a ‘passive’ manner.
The announcement of this law is believed to stem from the case of Team Griffin, which has just been relegated after failing in the LCK Summer 2020 Promotion Round, leaving the future of stars like Viper and Tarzan uncertain.
However, it should be emphasized that this is only information conveyed by Inven Global, and Riot Korea has yet to respond to this information.

According to speculations from Chinese and Korean media, Viper is being contacted by Hanwha Life Esports, while Tarzan is also being pursued by former T1 coach – kkOma. This coach highly values Tarzan’s talent and wants him to be a key piece in the “revival” of Vici Gaming.
Overall, after the departure of Chovy, Viper and Tarzan are the two most promising names in Griffin’s lineup last season, and it’s not surprising that this duo has become incredibly hot in the transfer market after Griffin’s relegation. If Riot’s contract release law is confirmed, both Tarzan and Viper could freely choose their new destinations without needing to go through Griffin’s management.
