If you didn’t know, Honest Game Trailer is a series of videos introducing video games across all genres with three criteria: Raw, Straight, True. This video series is posted on the Fandom Games YouTube channel, and it does not hesitate to put games from blockbusters to the world’s top Esports “on the chopping block” with blunt remarks like: “League of Legends is a mashup of Warcraft maps, Blizzard-style trailers, leveling systems, DotA maps, and more DotA elements.”
And of course, the newly released game from Riot Games – VALORANT also did not escape the fate of being featured in this series when just a few days ago, the video about this new game was released.
At the start of the video, the channel sarcastically introduced VALORANT by saying: “In a world where everyone is making survival shooter games, one company decides to go against the trend by… anime-fying everything from CS:GO – VALORANT“. They also cleverly hinted at Riot Games: “Finally, they have done something that is not a copy of DotA.”
Another sharp “cut” that Honest Game Trailer made against VALORANT is: “This game is a mashup of shooting from CS:GO, skill spamming from OverWatch, and cinematic videos from League of Legends. Plus, the characters of VALORANT seem like they could become a Pepsi version of OverWatch.”
Staying true to their Raw – Straight – True style, Honest Game Trailer ended the video about VALORANT with just four words: CounterWatch: Weeaboo Offensive, meaning the gameplay is taken from CS:GO, and the characters are an anime version of OverWatch.
It seems that since its launch until now, VALORANT has been receiving a lot of criticism from various sources. However, this is not necessarily bad for the development of this game, as the more it is discussed and criticized, the more attention VALORANT receives from the community.
As the popularity of this game grows, naturally more players flock to VALORANT, leading to stronger development of the game. This is, of course, what Riot Games wants. Not to mention, just like League of Legends, a game that was once criticized for being a copy of DotA (and later became a meme for being a “knockoff of Arena of Valor”) is still thriving and developing tremendously.
