Godfire was initially one of the most criticized features in League of Legends; money wasn’t really the issue, but what frustrated players the most was that it didn’t offer any rewards while forcing them to grind extensively. As a result, the number of Godfire sales was extremely low, with only a few players who truly loved certain champions buying them just to enhance their profiles.

Therefore, in their latest announcement, Riot Games introduced some very noteworthy updates about the Godfire feature, such as the release of new Godfire sets with more valuable stats and achievements. You can even receive a free Godfire chest just by diligently playing ranked matches each season.
First off regarding the future of Godfire, Riot shared that they will be launching Godfire in the future in complete sets. This means that Godfire Set 2 will be released for all champions at the beginning of 2021. Furthermore, when the new Godfire set is launched, older Godfire sets will be heavily discounted, so if you can be patient, wait for that time to buy.

Regarding the new item – Godfire Chest, Riot Games stated that you will only receive this item through ranked play, completing event missions, reaching milestone 4 of the Ranked Rewards Season, or qualifying for the Glory skin for the season. True to its name, the Godfire Chest will contain Godfire fragments for players to unlock, similar to opening chests for skin fragments as it currently stands.

The first event where you can earn a Godfire Chest for free is the upcoming Summer event. After completing a free mission towards the end of the mission chain, players will receive a Godfire Chest. Starting from Ranked Season 3 of 2020, you will receive a Godfire Chest if you surpass the 750 Ranked Points threshold. Finally, every player who receives a Glory skin will also receive an additional Godfire set for the champion that got that Glory skin.

Another feature of Godfire that will soon be introduced is the ability to set records for the season, similar to setting goals for yourself. Additionally, you can also obtain special Godfire emotes if you feel proud of a particular achievement.
In summary, this update from Riot Games will make players feel more satisfied with their Godfire grind. Perhaps they have realized the mistake made when releasing the first Godfire set and are taking steps to rectify it. Hopefully, they won’t disappoint players like the first set did.
